Samsung S3 Mini Review

s3-miniSamsung S3 Mini is a four inch sized smartphone with a curved 800×480 pixels display resolution and 233 PPI.  S3 Mini looks just like the original S3 and can be an affordable and smart alternative to its costly bigger brother and over high priced phones on the market. What makes this phone a good alternative, well lets start off by taking a loot at what it has to offer.

Features and Hardware

Compared to S3, S3 Mini houses a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.  This is a notable downgrade from 1.4GHz CPU and 2GB RAM hosted by the older S3 version.

It runs on Android’s 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and has Samsung’s original TouchWiz interface. There’s also limited access to Samsung’s App store and S-Voice. S-voice can answer simple questions like, how will the weather in Tokyo be like tomorrow.  But the app can’t handle more difficult questions than that.

S3 Mini is coupled with a 5-megapixel back camera, VGA front camera and LED flash. Unfortunately, Mini does not have LTE support.  This is bad news especially since we are approaching the age of 4G data connection. Additional features include NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and expandable memory of up to 32 GB.

Video and Camera

Mini’s 5-megapixel camera lends “ok” picture quality because fails to capture details clearly and takes too much time before it can focus. The front VGA is good for video calls but also does an “ok” job on video recording.

In appearance, S3 Mini resembles the older S3 version but does not inherit the same capabilities. If you want a Galaxy S3 phone with all its impressive features, don’t opt for the mini. It just does not match up.
